Awards Overview
Awards, which are in the form of Badges and Certificates, are used to reward student behaviors, create strong goal achievement, document off-transcript student learning, reward professional learning or mandatory training, but the end goal is to do all of this while having fun. This document will give the bigger picture of the Awards tool. Additional documentation will explain how to create badges and certificates and teach you how to apply Awards to your course to encourage life-long learning.
From your Course Homepage select More from the navigation and then scroll to the bottom to locate Awards.
From the Awards navigation within your course, you will see four topics. Select the first tab, Classlist Awards. Here you can view the Awards each of your students has earned. Students do not see this view. They only see the Badges they have earned. Awards can be manually assigned AND, they can be set to auto-assign if specific conditions are met.
To manually assign Badges, select the user(s) under Classlist Awards, then select Issue.
From here, you can select the award to assign and identify the criteria met. Once completed,
select Issue. The Award Criteria field must be filled out to be able to issue a Badge.
Under the Course Awards tab, you can see which Awards are used in your course. This is also where you auto-assign Badges. Make sure you have selected the Course Awards tab. Next, select the Edit Properties link next to the Badge that you wish to auto-assign.
Several editable options are available. First, you may assign Credits to badges. This feature does not fit the current model of instruction at Arapahoe Community College and should be left blank. Second, you can select whether or not you want the Badge to remain hidden until assigned. This will prevent students from seeing the Badge until they meet the requirements to earn the badge.
Next, select the Create button to choose one, or multiple, release conditions. These will need to be selected one at a time.
Once the release condition/conditions are met, the Badge will automatically be assigned to the user who met the requirements.
For example, you can set a Badge to auto-assign based on a grade value on a graded item. Start by selecting the condition type. Here, Grade value on a grade item is selected. From the dropdown menu under Grade Item, choose the grade item that is listed in your grade book. Next, choose the Criteria. Select greater than or equal to (<=) from the dropdown menu, then under Grade, type in the grade percentage that the earned Badge will be awarded. Once you are satisfied, select Create to add the release condition.
For multiple conditions, you can add additional release conditions by duplicating the process above. You may choose to award the Badge for ANY or ALL conditions being met.
Next, let’s look at the Award Icon Library tab. This area lists the pre-made Badges available for distribution. By selecting the Upload New Icon button, you can add pre-designed Badges to this library collection.
The last tab, Certificate Templates, houses two premade certificates that can quickly be filled out and awarded. By selecting the Upload New Template button, you can add your design to this Certificate Template library.
